Elijah’s Blessing was established in October 1985 by Pastors Lynn and Claudia Lynum with the initial goal of assisting their small church community. However, their mission expanded when they started serving 25-50 families, eventually reaching thousands of families in Southern California and Tijuana, Mexico, within a decade. The ministry aimed to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and provide essential supplies to those in need. Initially focused on local assistance, Elijah’s Blessing eventually transformed into a Food Bank.
The name “Elijah’s Blessing” was inspired by the biblical story of Elijah, where he was sustained by ravens during a time of drought (1 Kings 17:1-6). This story resonated with Lynn and Claudia as they saw people in similar circumstances today, either on the run or without a place to call home. They believed it was their duty to obey the Lord and provide sustenance to these broken individuals.
Through partnerships with companies like Target, Walmart, and the United States Postal Service, Elijah’s Blessing reached individuals who would not have otherwise had access to food and supplies, even in the face of storms and unforeseen events. Volunteers played a crucial role, assisting in international efforts such as supporting orphanages with food and Christmas toys, as well as helping the prison system in Baja, Mexico. The organization extended its support to incarcerated men, women, and their children, providing care packages, school clothes, supplies, personal items, and toys.
Elijah’s Blessing also facilitated educational opportunities, sending men to college and trade school. Two individuals graduated from the University of Las Vegas and an electricians’ trade school in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Additionally, they ran a teen pregnancy program, assisting young mothers with baby supplies and care. After more than three decades, the organization was passed on to the next generation, having provided more than an estimated half million dollars’ worth of food and supplies to over 600,000 individuals and families.
Elijah’s Blessing has left a lasting impact on their community and beyond through dedication and service. It is up to their new generation to carry on the effort and expand the organization into new regions, identifying a need, expanding programming and providing opportunity to those in need.
Elijah’s Blessing Community Service Center (EBCSC) was founded in 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland with the mission of meeting the needs of families across the globe. EBCSC has been serving communities for nearly two decades, feeding more than 20,000 working-class families and assisting with outstanding utility bills. In addition, EBCSC has created community resource centers to aid the community with job search tasks, employment development, and educational opportunities.
Currently, there are two community resource centers located in the United States: Maryland and California. These channels work with other community outreach programs such as the Hugh Toy Drive for Mexico and Africa and the EBCSC Food Drive. After developing and successfully implementing multiple programs such as the, EBCSC developed a new integrative initiative to improve the well-being of humanity, promote ecological education, and enhance the health of the environment.
EBCSC adopted the “Green” initiative in 2013. This initiative extends and revolutionizes the organization’s influence nationally, bringing new significance to previous programs, offerings, and services. EBCSC analyzes “Green” studies annually to aid in the development of new solutions to ongoing environmental and humanitarian issues. With talent, skills, and a strong research team in place, EBCS plans to make a significant impact in communities, organizations and businesses.
EBCSC aims to develop programs that foster healthy communities and empower individuals through education and awareness. Our initiatives practice sound principles of sustainability and business that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
